As one our Izzi core values to celebrate diversity and inclusion, we asked staff to share something about the culture or country they represent in honor of International Women’s Day.

Mona Alsadat Rezay Nazari (Tehran, Iran)

Preschool Teacher

Though miles apart, my spirit remains anchored to the soil of my homeland, forever longing for its embrace. As the New Year approaches, bringing Nowruz, there's a unique atmosphere in Iran during March, particularly in my beloved neighborhood, Tajrish. Everyone is bustling about, busily preparing for Nowruz festivities.

Sunshine Wu Fisher (Hong Kong)

Mental Health Coordinator

I grew up in Taikooshing, where my apartment was in a building with 28 floors and 8 apartments per floor, and there were 60 of these buildings in the area. We had 3 big shopping malls within 10 minutes walking distance from my house!

Noor Alayan (Jerusalem, Palestine)

Home Based Specialist

Jerusalem is the Holy Land for 3 religions and we are famous for the oldest olive trees. My daughter and I are wearing a traditional dress called a thobe, which is embroidered by hand.

Ines Flores (San Salvador, El Salvador)

Family Services Specialist

We have active volcanos and temples. This photo was taken in November of 2017 of El Volcán Chaparrastique de San Miguel.

Zohreh Khoshnevisan (Tehran, Iran)

Site Supervisor

My language is Farsi. Our new year is in March, the first day of Spring. Preparation for the new year includes arrangement of the Haft-sin or Haft-seen (Persian: هفت‌سین‎) table — a spread of seven items representing renewal and springtime.

Ruba Aljammali (Gaza, Palestine)

Assistant Teacher

Tatreez is a form of traditional Palestinian embroidery. Commonly used symbols of tatreez include symbols like birds, trees and flowers.

Claudia Dotson (Mexico City, Mexico)

Home Based Visitor

Angel of Independence is our monument and localized in one of the more famous avenues in Mexico City, Paseo de la Reforma. Photo taken last summer from the top of Cityzen Rooftop Bar and Restaurant for my nephew’s university graduation party.

Melissa Martin (Half Moon Bay, USA)

Family Services Coordinator

My family came here from Italy several generations ago and farmed artichokes on large amounts of land. Here is a picture of an artichoke plant that was growing in the field behind the Half Moon Bay site a couple of years ago.

Angel Chang (Taipei, Taiwan)

Marketing and Communications Manager

I was born and raised in Orange County, but I spent many winter breaks traveling to see my mom’s family in Taipei, Taiwan. This is me mid-jump at the base of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a national monument, during a recent family trip last December.

Albenia Urías (El Salvador)

Preschool Teacher

My favorite places there are the beautiful beaches of my country and the amazing food like pupusas. I feel pride to my country and a Salvadorian teacher.

Hend Juwaydah (Basrah, Iraq)

My city is famous for the tales of Sinbad the Sailor, Aladdin, and the stories of One Thousand and One Nights, Scheherazade, and Shahrayar. Basrah is the only port in Iraq. My city is also famous for over 350 kinds of dates and the distinctive way of grilling river fish (maskoof). Photo of my mom with maskoof.
